POSITION: PARKS & RECREATION SUMMER PROGRAMS - JUNIOR LEADER
position summary
This position plays a key role in planning, organizing, and facilitating engaging recreational events, summer programs and initiatives that cater to diverse interests and age groups, while carrying a great amount of responsibility in creating programs, helping with staffing, and leading the program events.
administrative duties:
- Assisting with budgeting, promoting, implementing, and evaluating programs for children ages 6 - 12.
- Assisting with special events held throughout the summer.
- Assisting with inventory control and organization of summer program supplies.
operational duties:
- Collaborating with the Summer Programmer - Senior Leader to brainstorm, plan, and execute a variety of recreational programs and activities for community members.
- Developing creative and innovative ideas for recreational events, workshops, and outings that promote physical activity, social interaction, and personal enrichment.
- Assisting the Summer Programmer - Senior Leader in coordinating logistics, including scheduling, venue reservations, equipment rentals, and transportation arrangements, as needed.
- Assisting with supervision of volunteers and staff involved in recreational activities.
- Ensuring the safety and well-being of participants by implementing appropriate risk management protocols and adhering to safety guidelines.
- Evaluating the success of recreational programs through participant feedback, attendance records, and other performance metrics.
- Maintaining accurate records and documentation related to program budgets, expenditures, and outcomes.
- Collaborating with community partners, local organizations, and vendors to enhance the variety and quality of recreational offerings.
- Ensuring the safety of all summer program participants.
- Ensuring staffing is sufficient for all planned events & outings.
- Performing other duties as assigned by the Summer Programmer - Senior Leader.

- Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed for a total of 40 hrs/week.
education & experience
- First Aid & CPR Certification is required.
- A valid class 5 driver's license is an asset
- Ability provide a Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector check.
- Experience with children, children's programming, or education development is preferred.
- Prior experience in event planning, recreation programming, or a related field is preferred but not required.

Summer Programmer - Senior Leader
hours of work:
40hrs/week of shift work. Day shifts including some evening or weekend shifts as required.
salary:
$23.14 - $25.38 per hour
