Snow Removal Routes

Snow Removal Routes & Information

Snow removal on roadways and walkways is an ongoing and essential winter service that requires the participation of both Town staff and members of the community working together for everyone's safety.

When clearing roadways, temporary orange road signs are put out with as much advanced notice as possible, with the goal being 48 hours notice despite legal requirements only being 12 hours. Sidewalks are the responsibility of the adjacent homeowner and must be cleared within 48 hours of snowfall.
  • $100 fine for parking within a snow removal zone + possible towing
  • $250 fine for uncleared sidewalks

how snow removal is prioritized in barrhead

We know snow removal is important to residents and businesses in Barrhead. With the potential for several significant snowfalls occurring in short periods of time, progress can feel slower than anyone would like. We appreciate everyone's patience as our snow crews work through challenging winter conditions

Our Snow Removal Priority map is intended to help better understand how snow removal is sequenced. The map visually identifies which streets are cleared first and how crews move through the community. Please note, route sequencing may change to accommodate scheduled garbage collection.

how to use the snow removal priority map

The map helps visualize:

  • Priority routes that are cleared first after every snowfall
  • Secondary routes that follow once priority routes are stabilized
  • Residential streets and where they fall in the overall clearing sequence

When a new snow event occurs, crews must return to priority routes first to maintain emergency access across the community. As a result, progress on residential streets may pause until those routes are safe again.

snow removal priority sequence

Secondary Routes

Cleared after priority routes are stabilized

  • Roads serving assisted living facilities
  • Main routes connecting residential neighbourhoods to priority roads and highways
