Aquatics Supervisor

POSITION: AQUATICS SUPERVISOR


SUMMARY

Reporting to the Director of Parks & Recreation, the Aquatics Supervisor is responsible for the overall administration and operations of the Aquatics Center.  The Aquatics Center boasts a 6-lane competition pool, a zero entry pool, a teach pool along with a lazy river, steam room and hot tub.


RESPONSIBILITIES

The Aquatics Supervisor will be accountable for the following:

  • the safe operation of a public swimming pool according to Alberta Health Regulations;
  • Supervises all full time and casual lifeguards;
  • Oversees the Aquatics Centre Operating and Capital Budgets;
  • Instructs Lifesaving Society Programs;
  • Lifeguarding duties as required;
  • Conducts facility purchasing (pool chemicals, janitorial and instructional supplies, equipment, resale inventory) and sources new equipment and supplies, including proper storage organization;
  • Promotes and maintains positive public relations and partnership opportunities with schools, community groups and local organizations to maximize use of the facility;
  • Coordinates with OH&S to ensure compliance, i.e. updated safe work procedures; WHMIS training; establish emergency procedures and schedule supervisory training,; review incident reports for follow-up action and ensures adequate records are maintained;
  • Oversees and directs staff, prepares staff schedules, work assignments, approves time off requests, conducts performance reviews, disciplinary action, recommends merit increases and verifies staff timesheets;
  • Develops and implements staff in-services, meetings and training opportunities as required;
  • Critically evaluates all established practices and implements changes or makes recommendations to increase overall efficiency and effectiveness of aquatic programs and services


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree or diploma in kinesiology, recreation or related field or a combination of education and direct work experience may be considered
  • Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard Certificate (NL)
  • Standard First Aid & CPR-C/AED or Intermediate First Aid (Instructor is an asset)
  • Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (Instructor Trainer is an asset)
  • Certified Pool Operator Certification
  • Class 5 Driver's License
  • Minimum 4 years experience working in aquatics (lifeguard, instructor, pool operator, attendant, etc.)
  • Minimum 2 years supervisory experience

  • Demonstrated ability to work well independantly and as part of a team
  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and strong problem-solving skills
  • Dmeonstrated ability work with limited direction and/or supervision
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient computer skills (word processing, spreadsheets, email, internet)
  • Ability work well with external customers, facility users, volunteers, off-site staff, etc. of all ages, backgrounds and abilities


COMPENSATION

The 2023 Salary Range for this position is $72,289 to $91,796.  A comprehensive municipal benefits package is available.
